Cape Reinga is where, according to Maori beliefs, the souls of the dead depart for the underworld. It is truly an impressive visit, especially since the tasman sea and the pacific ocean clash into each other at this point as well. In contrary to popular belief it is not the the northernmost point of New Zealand.

When we arrived at Cape everything was covered in fog (as you can see on the image of Remo, I know it’s not in Focus..) and I didn’t get the shot I wanted so we decided to leave. After a few miles I still couldn’t let it go, so we decided to camp at the parking lot and I hoped for a beautiful sunrise. And there we go.. Still a bit Jetlaged I got up a 5:00 to get that perfect shot. I set up my tripod and hoped for the magic to happen. And I have to say, it truly felt like some souls decided to depart that morning as the famous lighthouse (which isn’t actually the cape.. it’s the point on the right) got perfectly lit by the sun as some fog rolled up the steep hills towards the lighthouse. I couldn’t leave the finger of the shutter and snapped at least 100 shots.. Finally I decided which one to process.. there you go!
